Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) thrives when teams work together. The incredible team of volunteers at PMC is vital to the entire organization and is made up of many dedicated and talented individuals of all ages. PMC volunteers provide various services that improve the overall experience of patients and visitors, and are often among the first faces they see when entering the hospital.
Volunteering at PMC allows individuals, both young and young-at-heart, to meet new people, gain valuable experience and make lasting connections and friendships. Teens as young as 14 can volunteer by collaborating with staff and assisting in many ways. Those 18 and older can serve in various departments and are placed in the organization based on interests, skills and availability.
Recently, PMC started a new program, “Volunteers to Careers,” an expanded version of its shadowing program. This program allows individuals to spend time with and observe the daily responsibilities of certain employees and gain a better insight into the many career opportunities.
Job shadowing is available for those 16 years and older for various positions, with more options added as interest is shown. Individuals can shadow a physician, nurse, electrician, public relations specialist and many more! By participating in this program, individuals can better understand their future employment options.
