Eastern Kentucky is once again grappling with an overwhelming crisis as catastrophic flooding has ravaged the region. Thousands of families have been displaced, homes have been destroyed and critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges, has been washed out, leaving many isolated and in dire need of help. The road to recovery will be long and rigorous, but the strength and determination of our people continue to shine brightly.

The Appalachian spirit of compassion and community remains unwavering in this unprecedented adversity. Acts of kindness and generosity have poured in from all corners of the region, reflecting the strong bonds that unite the people of Eastern Kentucky. In response, we encourage individuals to help by donating online at www.pikevillehospital.org/flood/ or submitting donations through a printable form for mail-in contributions. Additionally, a live Flood Relief Resource and Fundraising event took place on Thursday, Feb 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., which multiple local and regional media outlets participated in and broadcast live. There was also “Rebuilding Appalachia: A Silent Auction for Flood Recovery” starting that day, aimed at raising crucial funds for the victims of the flood. We shared additional information on the event, our media partners and where to tune in on our website and social media page that week leading up to the event. We asked the community to tune in to learn where there were flood relief resources or to find ways to help our community members in need who had been impacted by this horrific flooding event.

“The devastation has been immense, but our resolve to support our neighbors is stronger than ever,” said Donovan Blackburn, President and CEO of PMC. “As a healthcare provider, we see firsthand the toll this disaster has taken on our community. We are more than just a hospital; we are a family united in service and compassion. I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from our employees, local businesses and everyone who has stepped forward to assist.”

The scope of need is vast, and while immediate relief is essential, the journey toward long-term recovery will require the collective effort of the entire community. PMC is urging individuals and organizations to join in this vital mission. Contributions of any size, volunteer efforts and continued prayers will be pivotal in helping Eastern Kentucky rebuild and recover.

“We have faced difficult challenges before, but I have no doubt that we will rise from this disaster stronger than ever,” said Blackburn. “Together, we will rebuild, recover and emerge with renewed hope.”
