Pikeville Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy

Specialty prescriptions are sometimes difficult to navigate for those that need them the most. PMC is committed to make the process as easy as possible for patients needing prescriptions from a specialty pharmacy. Patients can count on PMC’s Specialty Pharmacy team to provide support before, during and after the sale. They are available for consultations, insurance questions, and financial concerns. Together, we can help patients navigate through the maze and provide a positive outcome.

PMC’s Specialty Pharmacy can reach out to PMC’s network of providers and collaborate to improve care. PMC’s pharmacists can provide consultations and clinical monitoring. Consultations and questions can also be provided by phone 24 hours a day.

PMC’s pharmacy techs can work with insurance companies to get authorizations for coverage. They can also assist with information and contacts for financial assistance. Specialty prescriptions can be picked-up in person, delivered to your provider’s office or mailed to you at no additional cost.

Our specialty pharmacists provide access to multiple specialties, including, but not limited to:

    • Chemotherapy drugs
    • Growth/Hormonal disorders
    • Inflammatory bowel disorders
    • Hepatitis
    • Multiple sclerosis
    • Osteoporosis
    • Psoriasis
    • Cystic fibrosis
    • Transplant drugs

    Hours

  • Patients may walk in to pick up their medications from the designated Specialty Pharmacy pick-up window or to consult with a member of the Specialty Pharmacy staff Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Patients may also pick up their medication via the drive-thru window 24/7.

    Define Specialty Medications

  • Specialty Drugs are defined as expensive medications used for conditions like MS, Cancer and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

These medications generally require special administration such as injections and infusion services, and patients may need supervision or guidance from medical professionals that can monitor their administration for safety and effectiveness.

Again, specialty drugs can be costly… often $600 or more a month. It is common that patients are required by their insurance companies to pay a percentage of the drug’s cost rather than a flat copay. Some state governments are capping patient out-of-pocket costs. PMC offers financial counseling programs and some drug manufacturers also offer financial assistance programs to ease access to critically needed medications. For more information, contact our pharmacy team and inquire about financial assistance programs.
