Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) Critical Care Unit (CCU) Nursing Assistant and Healthcare Hero, Sonja Collins has been instrumental in treating patients with COVID-19.
For 10 years, Collins provided basic care for PMC patients. She says she enjoyed working with patients and felt blessed to serve them during their stay
.
When faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, Collins says she prayed and asked for God’s help and decided she would help care for COVID patients.
“I take great pride in my job. I want to provide care for the COVID-19 patients and to play a small role in their recovery,” said Collins. “From the beginning, I felt that God spoke to me and I knew with His help, I could make a difference in the lives of these patients.”
She explained that frontline staff are caring for the sickest of patients, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technology in hopes to get patients well enough to return home.
“I encourage everyone to wear their mask and social distance as much as possible,” Collins said. “If everyone could see the effects of this virus firsthand, I think they would follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations more carefully.”
Collins is married to Matthew and together they have three children Matthew (6), Isabella (3), and Kacey (4 – who has spent four years in heaven).
She and her family enjoy spending time together and are members of Connection Church.
