The PMC Emergency Department Physicians found themselves prepared to perform a unique procedure in a life-threatening situation.

“Drs. Weinberger and Reynolds performed a Pericardiocentesis,” said PMC Director of the Emergency Department, Dale Morton. “This is a procedure done to remove fluid that has built up in the sac around the heart (pericardium).”

He says this procedure uses a needle and a small catheter to drain excess fluid.

“The dedication, professionalism, and quick reaction to the prognosis of these physicians essentially saved a patient’s life. Our goal is to continue to grow and develop while improving every day on the care we provide to our patients in the region,” said Morton. “We are always training and improving our ability to competently perform procedures for ill or injured patients to deliver quality care.”
