Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical sub-specialty of radiology. Due to advancements in technology and imaging equipment, interventional radiologists are able to approach conditions that once required surgery and treat non-surgically. Generally the procedures use needles and catheters, X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT and other imaging modalities. The treatment generally reduces infection rates, improves recovery times and shortens hospital stays.
