For decades, Eastern Kentucky and the central Appalachian region as a whole has battled many challenges, especially those related to a limited access to quality medical care. In the past, entire families regularly traveled multiple hours to receive specialty medical care.
In recent years, there has been a very notable shift in this reality, as the administration and board of directors at Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) took an aggressive approach to increase opportunities for patients to receive care they need and deserve. For the first time in its history, the hospital sought and received millions of dollars in grant funding to construct and equip new facilities. These opportunities allowed for unprecedented growth in terms of services, state-of-the-art technology and the caliber of specialty physicians available at PMC.
Currently, Pikeville Medical Center is home to Kentucky’s only Level II Trauma Center, the nation’s largest autism center offering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy and Eastern Kentucky’s only Level II Advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. PMC has over 3,100 employees including 450 licensed medical providers and operates 10 Centers of Excellence.
The dedication and sacrifices made by the leadership and employees of PMC have not gone unnoticed by others, both in Kentucky and across the United States. US News and World Report, Forbes and other nationally known organizations and accrediting agencies such as the American Academy of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, American College of Radiology, American Heart Association, Certified Autism Center, Society’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative and many others have recognized Pikeville Medical Center’s achievements and accomplishments.
As 2023 comes to an end, Pikeville Medical Center once again has reason to celebrate another year of historic achievements and accomplishments, which is a continued testimony to those who call PMC home.
