Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) is now offering an in-house phlebotomy training program beginning in March. Those selected for the program will receive 60 hours of instructional class time and 80 hours of clinical training at PMC over a seven-week period at no cost to the student. During training, phlebotomy students at PMC will be PAID to attend the class. After the program, students will be able to take the national phlebotomy certification exam.
Upon passing the exam, the newly certified phlebotomist will have a pay increase starting at $14.63 / hr at PMC.
“We are excited to be able to offer this program in-house,” explained PMC Phlebotomy Supervisor Vanessa Rife. “This is a great way to address our phlebotomy shortage at PMC while helping those in our community who want to begin a career in phlebotomy. Many times, financial struggles hinder attempts to receive certifications required for many jobs. This program will alleviate that worry for many.”
