Throughout a woman’s lifetime, her OB/GYN will deal with some of her most critical health issues from pregnancy to childbirth to menopause. In between these major life changes, an OB/GYN can offer more generalized women’s health care by screening for cancer, treating infections and performing necessary surgeries. Pikeville Medical Center’s (PMC) Malisa Moss, DO, is one of a seven-member team of OB/GYN physicians dedicated to women’s health care needs.
Dr. Moss specializes in complex OB/GYN procedures using the da Vinci Surgical System, a robotic system designed to facilitate surgeries using a minimally invasive approach. Patients typically see benefits through this procedure with shorter hospital stays, less pain and scarring, less risk of infection and less blood loss.
In addition to being one of the only OB/GYN’s in the region to perform surgical procedures with the Da Vinci system, Dr. Moss provides care for annual exams, Endometriosis, family planning, infertility, ovarian screenings, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, prenatal and postpartum care.
Dr. Moss received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and obtained her medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN. Dr. Moss completed her residency at Garden City Hospital in Michigan and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She practices medicine alongside PMC’s six other OB/GYN’s.
“OB/GYN’s are essential in providing care and counseling during all stages of a woman’s life,” said PMC Senior VP, Assistant CEO and Chief Medical Officer, Aaron Crum, MD. “I believe this physician-patient relationship is one of the most important in healthcare.”
