Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) and frontline Healthcare Hero, Kayla Harrison has played a contributory role in helping combat the novel Coronavirus.
She says her number of patients has significantly increased since the pandemic began.
“This virus has been challenging for frontline employees,” said Harrison. “We have worked extremely hard and have studied this virus in order to give our patients quality care.”
She says she is proud to work with such a strong team at PMC.
“I have treated patients of all ages who have severe symptoms,” said Harrison. “It has been very heartbreaking to see how sick some of these patients are.”
PMC has put several safety precautions in place to help protect patients and staff in the ED. The increase of screening stations outside the ED entrance has allowed those who enter to be screened faster.
PMC also designated a portion of the ED specifically for COVID-19 patients to help prevent spreading the virus to others.
Harrison encourages everyone to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and follow the recommendations set by the CDC.
“If you are sick, get tested, stay home, and properly complete your quarantine,” added Harrison.
When she is not caring for patients, Harrison enjoys spending time outdoors hiking with her boyfriend, Chip.
