The Lawson Cancer Center (LCC) offers the region leading-edge technology and a specially trained staff. PMC provides full-service, state-of-the-art cancer treatment and follow-up care, and is among a select few accredited cancer centers in KY that has received commendation by the Commission on Cancer.
PMC’s prestigious group of board-certified cancer doctors are dedicated to providing specialty care close to home. These seven physicians specialize in oncology, hematology, radiation therapy, and surgical oncology and focus on providing medical care for cancer patients.
PMC physicians have been working to improve some common obstacles cancer patients face including the oncology/cardiology program for patients who require cardiotoxic drugs. This makes PMC one of the few cancer centers offering this service. Cardiotoxicity (damage to the heart muscle sometimes caused by certain chemotherapy drugs) is a common complication of cancer treatment. Several different medications can now also be prescribed to help alleviate these complications in patients.
LLCC Physicians also work with PMC’s Dietitians to develop nutritional information to help improve cancer patient’s diets.
Christopher Croot, MD, is a local native who implemented the clinical trials program and is instituting plasmapheresis at PMC.
Plasmapharesis is the removal, treatment and return of blood plasma or components from and to the blood circulation. Substituting plasma can ensure that the immune system does not attack the body’s own tissues. This movement is a step toward providing the next generation of cancer care at PMC.
LLCC is located on the 10th floor of the PMC Clinic with dedicated parking for cancer patients on levels two and 10.
