The Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) Heart and Vascular Institute continues to be one of the state and national leaders in cardiac care. PMC’s Electrophysiology team of Director of the PMC Electrophysiology (EP) Lab Chase Reynolds, MD and Medical Director of the PMC Heart and Vascular Institute, Michael Antimisiaris, MD, work continuously to bring the most advanced technology to PMC, and have been very successful in doing so.
Dr. Antimisiaris is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of electrophysiology, having worked alongside physicians to develop some of the first procedures in EP. He joined the PMC team of physicians in 2009 as the medical center’s first electrophysiologist. Dr. Reynolds returned to his hometown of Pikeville to join the PMC Electrophysiology team in 2014.
In addition to being one of the hospitals in the top 30 percent in the midwest implanting the Watchman Device in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib), Dr’s Reynolds and Antimisiaris were the first in Kentucky to use a state-of-the-art ablation catheter for patients living with complex arrhythmias which cause the heart to beat erratically.
In February 2019, PMC performed the new ablation procedure, after being selected by Abbott Medical to use their newest technology to treat patients in central Appalachia.
“Our goal is to provide outstanding cardiac care to Eastern Kentucky and the surrounding region,” explained Dr. Antimisiaris.
