Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) takes pride in providing world-class quality healthcare to our patients. One example of advance care available at PMC is minimally invasive surgery for qualifying procedures performed by using the da Vinci XI Surgical System.
This 3D system provides intelligent technology using a minimally invasive approach that could improve outcomes. PMC surgeons use this advanced set of equipment to perform robotic-assisted surgery, controlled entirely by the surgeon. The procedure is performed using instruments he or she guides at a console located inside the surgery suite.
The da Vinci system follows the surgeon’s hand movements from the console in real-time, bending, and rotating the instruments while performing the procedure. The tiny devices move like a human hand, but with a greater range of motion. The system also delivers highly magnified, 3D high-definition views of the surgical area. The instrument size makes it possible for surgeons to operate through one or a few small incisions.
Patients see benefits including shorter hospital stays, less pain and scarring, less risk of infection and less blood loss. Most importantly, patients typically see a faster recovery.
